Use this a few times to see if it helps clear away anything that is clogging the drain. Make sure to pump forcefully to help suck the clogged debris more easily. A closet auger can also be used for drains that are more seriously clogged up. Just insert the end of the auger into the toilet and twist it around the drain as you push the rotor downward. Make sure that whatever method you use, that you don’t scratch the toilet bowl.
If you have a sink in the bathroom or kitchen that needs clearing, you will need to get underneath the cabinet of the sink. You will need a bucket, pair of gloves and slip-joint pliers. Place the bucket beneath the p-trap. Now, use the pliers to loosen the nuts on the trap and slowly remove it. Dump out any debris and that is found in the pipe into the bucket. You should replace the trap if it is rough or damaged on the inside. You will now need a 18” snake or auger; place it down the stub out located in the wall. If you feel the clog, see if you can break it up. If the auger gets snagged, you can turn the crank to work through it. Once you have passed the clog, you can remove the snake and begin reassembling the sink once again. Turn on the water to see if the clog has indeed cleared.
The same thing can also be done in the kitchen sink, though it may look a little different than the bathroom sink. If this isn’t the problem, you’ll need to check the refill tube to ensure that it isn’t inserted too far into the overflow tube, which means that it shouldn’t be any further than ¼” below the overflow tube’s rim. If you have made the required adjustments to both of these areas, but still have the problem, consider switching out the ballcock assembly.
Water Flushing Down Slowly
Another annoying thing that toilets tend to do here and there is flush very slowly. If this is the case in your home, it means that you have clogged holes beneath the rim of your toilet bowl. You should buy or locate a curved wire in your home, such as a wire hanger, and gently poke into each flush hole to make sure that they are cleared out. Sometimes debris can get stuck in the siphon jet at the bottom of the drain. You can also use a mirror, so that you can see better. Also, make sure that you don’t scratch the toilet bowl.
